Lounge Hall for T Co. in Hakusan

(English Below)

Opening to Enjoy the Bounty of Hakusan

Mt. Hakusan, a sacred mountain that has been revered as “the mountain where the gods dwell” since its establishment in 717. Hakusan, and the Tedori River fan-shaped area stretches across the land that has been formed with the blessings of Mt. The Tedori River, which flows from its source in Mt. Hakusan and empties into the Sea of Japan, flows through the Tedori River Fan, but in the past it was said to be a raging river, repeatedly overflowing. The fertile sediment carried by the river’s inexhaustible flow accumulated and formed a vast and solid land, on which the industrial zone developed. After the flood control of the Tedori River, a water supply system was constructed to serve the people living in the villages that developed on the lowlands, and a park called Matto Green Park was built beside the water supply system as a community facility. A straight stretch of water runs through one corner of the park, and a long and narrow space for the community to enjoy the water was created alongside the water. Adjacent to the waterfront area, an industrial site was established, where the factory of T Co. was built. It was a fateful encounter between the land and T Co., born from the combination of rich water flow, solid land, and the lives of the people living in the area and Mt.

When the owner proposed to build a cafeteria in the factory, he proposed to construct a long and narrow cafeteria parallel to the long and narrow waterfront space. We designed an opening that would allow the client to enjoy the blessings of the Hakusan mountains, an interior that would make the view through the opening more attractive, and a space that would fulfill the functions required by the client.

First, in order to effectively incorporate the natural environment of the long and narrow waterfront space, the straight rows of cherry blossom trees along it, and the dynamic movement of the sky and clouds stretching from right to left from the mountain to the sea into the dining room, a long and narrow aperture was designed to be as narrow as possible to modulate the amount of light from the view, and as wide as the room itself. The interior design includes a long and narrow opening on the opposite side of the window.

The interior design minimizes the color of the interior by using a dark wall on the opposite side of the window to reduce the reflection of the wall color on the glass. The 1.1-meter eaves installed outdoors prevent rain and direct sunlight from hitting the glass, thus eliminating the appearance of rain stains in the light and contributing to a clear view of the glass. In addition, the black curtain panels running up and down create a contrast with the brightness of the view, making the scenery look even more beautiful. The interior design of the dining room, from the indirect lighting to the counter furniture, is continuous in the longitudinal direction to create a linear space, and mirrors are placed at both ends of the room to make the length of the room appear longer than it actually is, maximizing the benefits of the natural environment provided by the blessings of the Hakusan mountains enjoyed through the opening.

In addition, the moderately light-controlled interior space is attractive as a place to rest the body and provides a comfortable environment for napping, fully satisfying the required function as a resting place for employees.
